Facebook User Base Grows, Albeit Slower than Before

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Facebook is now used by nearly 350 million users worldwide, according to an open letter from the site’s founder Mark Zuckerberg. The social networking site that came into being a mere five years ago has grown immensely in popularity over this short period.

The user figures show that almost 3/4th of the total world broadband user population is on Facebook too. A GigaOM study revealed recently that the latest 50m Facebook users signed up in over 77 days, which is a slightly longer period than the previous 62 days that it took for the last 50m users to join the site. The slight slowdown comes after the site reported positive cash flow for the first time in September. With these developments, Facebook will now require to structure its organisational and operational systems to ensure future growth in its business.

Computer Weekly reports show that Facebook stocks are reporting gains with 42% hike being witnessed over July to November this year. Private selling is estimated to be garnering $21 per share of the networking site. This brings the common shares to a $9.5bn value. Some stocks may also be sold off over the next one to one and half year period.

Live Chat Support Now Available for BT Broadband Customers

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

BT has launched a new messenger style service for the convenience of its customers whereby they can get the required information on products, sort out their queries, or even buy a product instantly without picking up their phone.

It had earlier introduced “Live Chat” on its website www.BT.com/inclusion for customers who had problems talking over the phone and found it easier to communicate via the internet. The service has now been extended to all customers. The internet service provider affirms that a committed adviser is available round the clock to respond to any question that the customer may type on the screen.

One can receive help on various topics that include enquiries with respect to billing, account changes, broadband migration, support on products and services or any other kind of information required.

BT’s Director of Strategy and eServices, Warren Buckley commented on the new service, saying that he was aware of the fact that it was not possible for everyone to correspond over the phone. Keeping this in mind, they had setup this Live Chat facility to assure their customers that someone was available for their queries as and when required by them.

Hearing Concern Link has appreciated the new service, as it especially helps disabled customers. It has now asked Ofcom to urge other broadband uk service providers to launch a similar service.

BT offers Live Chat support from 10am-5pm Monday to Friday and it is very simple to access. One has to just go to BT’s Inclusion website and click on the ‘Chat to us live

New Package from BT Offers Consolidated Services

Monday, April 27th, 2009

The British businesses have never had it so good as far as communication services are concerned. BT has now launched a new business broadband bundle offering UK business customers calls to UK and international numbers along with the regular broadband service for £30 a month.

The good thing about the package is that it will allow customers to choose different options of the services that they need. They will therefore be able to design a package as per their needs and this is expected to save them a significant amount of expenses, which they would otherwise have incurred for unused services (click here for more on cheap broadband)

Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business said that at a time of recession, BT was empowering UK businesses to manage their communication budget with a single fixed-cost package that they would be able to design themselves.

BT had also released a range of new BT One Plan packages before announcing the introduction of the £30 per-month bundle. These packages offered calling facilities to UK landlines and mobiles, along with overseas numbers for a fixed monthly cost starting from £5. The new package extends the idea by adding a broadband service to the offer.

The enquiries regarding the new bundle or any customer service related calls would be handled through one number. Similarly, one single bill will be used for presenting the usage of all the services. These two measures are expected to bring in significant convenience to the customers.

BT has also released some impressive service level information to promote its new broadband bundle. It claims a 99.99 per cent reliable broadband service and resolution of nine out of 10 issues within four hours. It has also revealed that as many as 95 per cent of calls to its help desk are answered within 30 seconds.

UK Mobile Network Moving Towards Consolidation

Friday, March 20th, 2009

There is news that O2 and Vodafone are about to sign a deal for sharing their networks to achieve better coverage and lower costs. This move by two of the major mobile service providers in the UK is likely to prove beneficial for the mobile broadband customers staying in areas with poor coverage.

The deal would be useful for both the operators as sharing network infrastructure would help them extend their reach beyond their present coverage. The two companies have several areas where their presence is quite weak and the partner could help in filling these gaps. This could mean a seamless rural coverage for 3G users of both the providers.

A partnership on identical lines already exists between 3 UK and T-Mobile, with Orange the third potential partner, as it would not like to remain standalone while all of its competitors reap the benefits of a shared network. This would create two major network clusters in the UK with considerable power over the market dynamics and tightening the competition between the best broadband providers. Therefore, the agreement would need the seal of approval from the Office of Fair Trading and the Competition Commission.

The deal will be of interest to the government too, as reduced competition in the mobile market will mean that the government will not be able to earn as much revenue from spectrum allocations, as it usually does.

The two companies are keeping the discussions in tight wraps, but it is believed that there is every likelihood of the deal going through.
