Dealing With Fevers And Colds

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

When your baby has a fever or cold, your first urge is to run right to the pediatrician. But, mild colds and fevers are common, and often don’t require a visit to the doctor, just some at home management. Here are some techniques to help manage colds and fever at home, and some information to help you know when to call the doctor.

First, most doctors don’t consider a fever under 100F a fever at all, unless your baby is under two months old, in which case you should seek medical treatment with any fever. Otherwise, as long as the fever doesn’t go above 102F, you need not treat it unless it is making your baby uncomfortable or unable to sleep. However, any fever which reaches 105 rectally, or a fever accompanied by signs of dehydration (infrequent urination, sunken fontanel, dry lips), or a feverish baby who has a stiff neck, is limp or has purple spots on the skin, should be treated by a professional immediately.

To treat a mild fever, try keeping your baby cool, using compresses or a tepid bath. Dress her loosely - that old wives tale about keeping them bundled up is just that- an old wives tale. Feed her lots of fluids, and keep a watch on her. But, try to avoid the use of over the counter medications, unless your baby is unable to sleep. Fever is the body’s way of fighting infection, so, when possible, it’s best to let it do its job.

For minor colds, the best treatment is rest. However, your child may be unable to rest comfortably unless you treat the cold symptoms. A vaporizer can do wonders to relieve congestion, as can vapor treatments in the bath. But, if your child is really uncomfortable, using an over the counter cold medicine is fine. For dosage guidelines, follow your doctor’s recommendations, or those on the bottle, but go by weight, not age.

Colds should resolve themselves in a week or so, but if they do not, look for signs of an ear infection. These can include unexplained crying, especially when lying down, tugging the ears, or tossing and turning while trying to sleep. If you notice these symptoms, take your child to the doctor. Ear infections can be very painful, and are often hard to recognize in young children.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding his recommendations for treating colds and fevers, and when he believes you should call or come in. But, trust your instincts, and don’t hesitate to call anytime you believe there is a real problem.

Sound Advice for Looking After Your Voice

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

We use it every day and yet the voice is one of the most neglected parts of our anatomy. Just think about how you use yours: chatting on the telephone, shouting at the kids, clearing your throat - the vocal cords endure a punishing schedule.

Of course if you use your voice professionally the demands are even greater; so how can you make sure you are giving this powerful, but delicate organ the care and attention it deserves?

Don’t misuse, or abuse the larynx. Never smoke and keep away from smoky atmospheres. Keep shouting to a minimum. If you have a cold that’s affecting the voice box, try and avoid talking.

Dry dusty conditions, even air-conditioning, can dry out the voice significantly, so always take regular sips of water. Try to reduce your caffeine intake as this can dry out the larynx and cause hoarseness. Equally watch your alcohol consumption as this not only has a physiological impact on your voice box, but reduces your inhibitions, making you more liable to raise your voice.

If you use your voice for singing, voice-overs or telephone sales make sure you do some warm up exercises. Gentle humming at a low level can help develop resonance, clear the airways and give those cords a soothing work-out, but be careful you don’t strain.

Large meals can alter the tonal quality of your voice (ask any singer, or voice-over artist) and this is especially true of spicy foods and dairy products.

For women, hormonal changes such as the menopause, pregnancy or menstruation can have a marked effect on the voice, as can stressful situations such as divorce or bereavement. The voice is the articulator of emotion, so tension or depression might show in your voice, sometimes in quite unexpected ways.

If you are ever worried about your voice, seek medical advice straight away.

Enjoy your voice and use it as a creative tool, or as an instrument to bring pleasure and fulfilment, but always treat it with great care and respect.

Insightful Information About the Startling Windsor Castle

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Windsor Castle is assumed to be the biggest colonised castles around at this time & the oldest in continuous occupation (more than nine hundred years). It’s one of Queen Elizabeth’s 3 main homes, and is repeatedly said to be the Queens preferred home. The Royal colours flutters above the Round Tower of Windsor Castle each & every time the Queen is in palace - though, at alternative occasions, the Union Jack flag flutters in its position.

Samuel Pepys once announced Windsor Castle to be “the solitary most romantic castle around.” That was believed in sixteen sixty six & the comparable can be said today.

Windsor Castle Fascinating History: If you are travelling to England then why not visit Windsor Castle, with Enjoy England.

The launch of Windsor can be found in the 7th century Saxon parish of Windlesora, where the recent day parish of Old Windsor is located. The town of Windsor is more correctly known as the “New Windsor” - the actual phrase “new” being taken in a relative way!

Windsor Castle in the beginning was assembled by the famed William the Conqueror, as a result of his hit of England in ten sixty-six. The original construction was built from timber with sol defences. Windsor Castle held an understandable strategic position on a big mound high above the River Thames, and was part of a circle of fortresses all around London, with the Tower of London, one whole days hike away, at its heart.

The Castle was soon rebuilt in stone, and increased in worth over history. In recent times Henry 2nd assembled the Round Tower & the original stone outer wall. Following the English Civil War, the building’s chief role became that of a royal residence. Windsor Castle has remained mainly unchanged ever since the beginning of the 19th century, apart from the refurbishment job right after the latest fire.

Home Mortgage Loans: Buying Your First Home but Low on Cash? Read On

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

If you are buying a home for the first time and are looking to apply for a mortgage loan, one of the recommended paths is through the internet because it is quick and easy. You can also compare the policies and fees of multiple lenders to find the best option for your financial situation.

It is very important to carefully choose the mortgage terms that will benefit you the most. If you wish to borrow as much as you can against your income, it is probably a good idea to accept an adjustable interest rate mortgage with low initial payments. For a more secure loan involving less risk, fixed rates are a viable option. The length of the loan also affects the interest rate and monthly payments.

Online research is also suggested because you can request quotes from numerous lenders, and compare rates and closing costs. If you plan on moving or refinancing your initial home mortgage, you should pursue a loan with lower closing costs rather than focusing on low rates. Once you’ve found the appropriate mortgage company, you can also apply for the loan online even if you haven’t purchased a house. Getting pre-approved for the loan is good because you can settle the interest rates and terms with the lender.

Success Step 1 - Tips On How To Select Your Niche Market

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Ideally you should choose a topic that you are knowledgeable about or have a strong interest in. e.g. a hobby such as gardening, golf, dog breeding etc.

To increase your chances of success, it’s best to specialize in a niche market as there will be less competition. Using golf as an example, you would find it extremely difficult to compete in this large but highly competitive market.

Some smaller less competitive niches would be:

* Golf Lessons

* Golf Equipment

* Golf Courses

* Golf Lessons For Beginners

* Ladies Golf Clubs

* Golf Courses in California

Get the general idea?

If you are genuinely interested in your chosen niche, you will find it much easier and more motivating to work on your project. Also, your enthusiasm will clearly show through and your credibility with your potential customers will also increase. Establishing a relationship of trust with your customers is fundamental to any long-term business success. This is even more important with internet marketing because you rarely have any personal contact with your customers.

What about content?

There’s no need to be concerned about this as the internet is the perfect place to research your chosen niche and you will never run short of material! You can even hire “ghost writers” to write articles for you — it’s cheaper than you may think!

There are a number of online companies that specialize in helping to put webmasters in contact with freelance writers. Two of the better known sites are Rentacoder and Elance. You can get a good quality article of about 500 words written for under $10.

Tip: Never ever copy anyone else’s work. This is not only unethical, but is also illegal and can get you into a lot of trouble. Always take time to create your own original material, based on your own research.

The first thing you need to do is get some help in the form of step by step instructions and coaching videos designed specifically for newbies.

If you are a newbie struggling to make sense of internet marketing and want to find out more about affiliate marketing and how anyone can now make profits from selling info products, Internet Business Buddy provides you with all the help you need. Why Wait for the Stop?

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Some days we have a stellar morning. A lot of the things we bought keep
going and some of the stuff we had held over is up pretty big. Then as
the market starts weakening, we start selling halfs. Why?
Because if you are up nicely on something, we don’t need to see it fall
all the way back to the stop before selling it!

We put the stops in as guidlines to go by. They are most often used as a
safety measure to keep you from losing too much on an entry. But once you
are in a stock and the thing has moved up, it really doesn’t make sense to
leave that stop below where you bought it right? Right. Move it up.

But, and this is very important, sometimes we get really lucky and see a
stock blast off. Take PDLI for example. One time we said to buy it on a
move over 60, and it opened a bit over 60, then a bit of a wiggle and up
it started. We jumped in at 60.45 and by that noon it was up to 66.10!
Well we are NOT going to let a gift horse like that get away, so we sold
half at 65.90. Then we decided to move the stop on the balance up to 64.

As you can see, the stops aren’t written in stone folks. if we were sitting
by your side, this would be easier for all of us, but with the letter
coming out in the evening, you have to make a few value judgements during
the day. In other words don’t let a great run get spoiled by sticking to
some stop we attached to the stock. The heck with that, they are there to
protect you, not tell you where a stock may drop back to and bounce! Sell
that puppy if you have a good gain! (or at least sell half, you can always
buy more!)

So, to wrap this up, we are pretty quick to take
profits. Some of you may think we are “too quick” and that’s okay,
Whatever style suits you is fine. But that said we would always rather sell
too soon and pocket a profit than to let the market whipsaw us and take our
profit away! So when you are up nicely, move the stop either mechanically
or mentally and if the stock starts falling go ahead and sell.

Bulgaria Property Investment, it Does Pay to Shop Around

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

In Bulgaria, every Ivan, Dimitar and Georgi wants to be an estate agent. Doesn’t leave much room for a Nottingham boy with a knack for spotting good land. But with a new avalanche of English property buyers about to hit the market and most of the cash destined for the Black Sea Coast, it’s all business for the agents, but are the buyers getting the most from their Bulgaria property investment?

Why here? It’s not just the good value of the land. Take a walk through a blizzard in Sofia, the capital city, like I did last winter. The snow is falling thick and fast and cars fly past me down the boulevard seemingly trying to break the world land speed record. Realising that I have a free afternoon I turn my head and through the falling snow and over the rooftops I can make out the looming white shape of Vitosha mountain. Let’s time this. Forty-nine minutes later I am looking down on the city with a snowboard attached to my feet flying down the mountain at death defying speed. What a place to live; work in the morning, snowboard in the afternoon. A lazy countryside, yet more rugged mountains and quaint villages lie a few kilometres beyond. Beaches stretch along the coast further out.

Of course there is more to Bulgaria than a few mountains and beaches. The countryside is varied and spectacular, littered with pretty villages. The people are warm and friendly and will invite you to drink a rakya with them, not caring that you don’t speak a word of each others language. On semi-major roads it is not uncommon to see a top of the range BMW overtaking a horse and cart. Eating out in a fresh seafood restaurant is cheap and the fresh fruit you find at road side stalls along the highway is some of the most delicious I have ever tasted. The country is also a major exporter of quality wine.

This mix has become a magnet for discount holiday seekers, and the Bulgarian property dealers - like myself - that follow. The Bulgarians have risen to the occasion, dropping what they’re doing and setting out their stalls to sell any property that they can.

Of course it wasn’t just the hot Bulgarian properties that put me in competition with the locals. On my way back from a reconnaissance in June 2004, I arrived early to the airport to be in plenty of time to reserve my favourite window seat. To my utter dismay there was no window on my aisle and I was lumbered with a ‘wall seat.’ The Bulgarian girl next to me found it amusing, commenting “nice view!” Within 3 months we were living together in Sofia. Three more months and we were married. Daniel Brailsford was born 5 months after that. Fast work.

So I went online with everyone else and found many punters would prefer a cheap little cottage set in beautiful mountains or seaside areas. However, due to decrepit properties that often are worth nothing more than the land they are built on, money may be spent better elsewhere. Many of these rural Bulgarian properties have ownership complications hanging over them to boot not to mention being nigh on impossible to get to during some of the most brutal winter months. It became apparent that new-built developments are a far more sensible Bulgaria property investment.

The capital is one destination many foreign investors are missing. While the coastal market has grown at an unnatural rate, and this may be of concern to the speculator, a capital city is the fairest measure of the true nature of a property market. Bulgaria will join the European Union in 2007. This will further cement stability and lead to further investment on all levels. All this combined and you have the perfect ingredients for steady and sustained urban market growth. It isn’t a bad investment for those willing to up the stakes and gamble on an apartment in the capital, especially new construction.

All things considered, in a foreign country with different laws and language it’s foolish to embark on anything without a good lawyer. English nationals can register a Ltd. company in Bulgaria when purchasing the equivalent to an ‘English freehold’ of land, or property with land attached. The law will change in this respect to bring property ownership in line with other European countries. When land is not part of the parcel - for example when purchasing an apartment - company registration is not necessary to gain freehold of the property. The daring are not finding these things to be much of a barrier.

The tricky thing is finding a trustworthy agent among the crowd, and that is where new investors in the region are stumbling. With my father as a former estate agent now specializing in surveying and having worked for him within the constraints of professional rules and ethics, with a civil engineering degree under my belt and construction experience, I was more than a little shocked at what I found in the Bulgarian property market. Enforcement and good professional associations have not cleaned up the mess that high demand is spurring.

I spent a few months working with a Bulgarian estate agency of questionable ethics and following a failed coalition with some other wannabe estate agents, I discovered anyone can be an estate agent here and have heard various stories of people being considerably mislead. That’s not to say that all agents are sharks, but it does pay to shop around.

Unfortunately there are no numbers, nor a professional watchdog to say how much of this money might find its way into dubious transactions, but English investors might do well to check out their potential agents before leaping into the market. If regulation of the Bulgarian estate profession can be implemented, perhaps through EU accession everyone will be better off. If it all works out, more Britons will be flying the flag in the balmy Balkans, broadening the pool of pub-goers, and just maybe walking with a Bulgarian wife hanging off their arm. The Bulgarian property I can find for you; a wife you have to find yourself.

Eng. Thomas Brailsford has a degree in Civil engineering from Manchester University, with experience in surveying specialized with his father who is on the governing body of the RICS and with experience in Project management and real estate on the UK market. Currently Managing Director of Imotite OOD trading under the name of Bulgaria Property Search.com specializing in Bulgaria Property Investment and off plan Bulgarian Property.

Artificial Intelligent Space Explorers in Search of Life

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

In the future we will send out probes in search of life to other worlds. They will scour our Galaxy and potentially find their way to other galaxies. Of course with so many potential life forms, how will they know life when they see it; especially if our artificial intelligent space explorers are not alive themselves?

Well first we must define what life is and we can do that by categorizing the life forms on Earth and all the theoretical possibilities off those baseline forms. One online think tank recently considered this concept and decided that perhaps we ought to try and figure out what makes mankind unique? Then another think tank member initiated the conversation to include a program to use for space exploration and searching for life on other worlds too. Other members of the group including the principal investigator of the; “What Makes Mankind Unique Project” stated the they had not considered;

“Whether or not the results [of that project] would constitute a suitable source for NASA or otherwise has never crossed my mind.”

Yet it only takes a few clicks on the Internet to see that indeed NASA would be interested in such.

http://www.resa.net/nasa/biology_systematics.htm

http://www.spacedaily.com/news/life-03zzt.html

http://www.astrobio.net/

http://www.chem.duke.edu/~jds/cruise_chem/Exobiology/search.html

And my thoughts are once you have the Matrix of animal life and human life while trying to find the answer to the question what makes mankind unique then for the Space Exploration Program for the Artificial Intelligent Life Form Robotic Teams it would only be a matter of defining “Intelligent Life” and plugging that into your Matrix.

A secondary white paper of course; then I want to take it once step further and the third white paper could be produced entitled; “Justification for Programming of Artificial Intelligent Robot Explorers to Identify Intelligent Life” and to observe, study and categorize life forms based on your matrix with simple methods to determine categories to trigger a data imprinting event. Without this, how will the artificial intelligent life form explorers know when they actually find intelligent life? Consider this in 2006.
